Why diet failure isn’t an option
with Passive slimming.
The worst thing about many conventional diet and exercise programs, is not the weight you put back on but the personal sense of failure which comes with it. Yes – diet failure can be miserable.
We’ve all been there – it starts with such enthusiasm and hope but eventually the effort of keeping it going causes us to falter, and then the guilt and self recrimination starts. That horrible “put down” tape starts playing in our head and we’re left more damaged than when we started. We look at all those beautiful slim women who “made it” on which ever programme we tried and feel a diet failure.
But do you know what? You’re not a diet failure. You didn’t fail: the programme failed you.When my husband Mark suffered a heart attack we needed to reduce his weight as quickly and gently as possible and diet failure simply wasn’t an option. Will-power wasn’t an option either as we were both shattered mentally and physically by the experience. We needed a way that was guaranteed to work with someone who was exhausted, distracted and in a very fragile state of health.To fail, you have to try, so we needed a way to lose weight without trying.
I know it sounds crazy and I guess we were a little crazy (crazy desperate) but they say necessity is the mother of all invention and we took a whole load of conventional health advice and built a no try no fail approach around it.
It worked spectacularly. And here’s the thing: it was designed to help Mark but I dropped from a size 16 to a size 8 jeans in four months without trying – and I mean just that – I didn’t even do any exercise other than the shopping and running around the kids.
Mark’s weight by the way dropped from 217lbs to 175lbs in three months and has been rock steady at that ever since. The other moms were shocked at how much weight I’d lost and that it stayed off in the months and what has turned into over a year and a half which has passed.
And that’s where the idea for passive slimming came from. Diet failure hadn’t been an option for us and when we thought of the millions of other men and women who thought they were “failing” and the unhappiness which resulted we wanted to share our technique.
Nearly every other approach I’ve ever come across sets you up to fail, by the amount of effort and commitment which are involved. Most of us have real lives with real commitments – we’re not fulltime fitness gurus or people who can afford for their whole life to revolve around weight control.
